How to convert length units
All length conversions are based on a single fixed definition: since 1959, one inch has been defined as exactly 2.54 centimeters. Every other imperial-to-metric conversion derives from this single fact.
To convert any length, multiply your value by the conversion factor. For example, to convert 10 inches to centimeters: 10 × 2.54 = 25.4 cm. To go the other way, divide instead: 25.4 ÷ 2.54 = 10 inches.
