How to convert temperature units
Temperature is one of the few physical quantities where the conversion is not a simple multiplication. It requires both a multiplication and an addition because the scales have different zero points and different degree sizes.
To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit: multiply by 9/5 then add 32. Formula: °F = (°C × 1.8) + 32. For example, 100°C = (100 × 1.8) + 32 = 212°F.
To convert Fahrenheit to Celsius: subtract 32 then multiply by 5/9. Formula: °C = (°F − 32) × 0.5556. For example, 98.6°F = (98.6 − 32) × 0.5556 = 37°C.
To convert Celsius to Kelvin: simply add 273.15. Formula: K = °C + 273.15. Kelvin uses the same degree size as Celsius but starts at absolute zero — the lowest possible temperature.
